Home Decorating Trends 2021

With the new year just a few days away, many homeowners have plans to restyle their home, whether it’s a full-on renovation or simply a refresher. But with so many interior design trends out there, it can be hard to know where to start. To help, the team at Decorilla, an online interior design service, has rounded up some of their top home decorating trends 2021 to keep an eye out for, so you can incorporate them into your own space.

It seems our collective yearning to get back to nature is having a moment — again. While last year brought banana-leaf everything, this year the trend is more subtle, with replicas of wood grains and stone veinings appearing in fabrics, rugs and furniture, and delicate wild flora and fauna motifs in accents. Look for these elements to appear in kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and more.

The neutral color palettes that dominated the past few years are starting to look a little tired, so expect warmer colors to be more popular in 2020. Shades of orange, coral and terracotta are among those that will be in fashion, especially when paired with blues, greens and pinks.

Another color that’s getting a lot of attention is peach. Expect to see this hue in wallpaper, fabrics and paint, and even on furnishings, including dining chairs, sofas and side tables. And don’t forget to add hints of peach in your decorative accents, like throw pillows and vases.

Say goodbye to matching trim and doors, which are being replaced by a more eclectic approach to the details of a room. Try a bold or contrasting color around windows, doors or even on chair railings to bring in a pop of personality.

Industrial décor might have had its moment, thanks to Chip and Jo Gaines and their farm-chic aesthetic on Fixer Upper, but it’s starting to feel a bit played out. Unless you want your home to be indistinguishable from a warehouse, ditch the pallet-everything furniture and cover up a few exposed pipes or box in that ductwork.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to experiment with patterns. In fact, it’s recommended to mix and match them. “Patterns are more fun than ever before, and you don’t have to limit them to the walls,” says Giannasio. You can also use them as a focal point in the room by pairing bold prints with simple furniture or woven fabrics.
